Wayne County, NY held its first Envirothon on April 24th. Four teams competed for $100 scholarships and a chance to go to the NY State Envirothon finals to be held later this month.
It was a windy cold day but all teams made it through the five testing stations set up around the grounds of the Montezuma wildlife center. Although it was a close competition right to the end, the “Lions” of Lyons Central High School pulled off a win with their outstanding oral presentation on “Sustainable Agriculture”.
The Wayne County Soil and Water Conservation District congratulates all teams and wish the “Lions”good luck at the New York State Envirothon May 21 and 22 at Morrisville State College.
The Envirothon is a high school natural resources competition that involves students learning about aquatics, forestry, soils, wildlife and agriculture sustainability.
